Thanks for the link; it saved me paying an entry fee. I went to the show yesterday, There is a lot there. The first tent has lots of the usual show stuff, "Cleaners, Vegetable slicers etc.). The main hall has lots of items for the home, solid furniture, soft furnishings, TV's Saunas, wine! Also the Timber frame home. Which is ok, but a bit of a queue develops getting through it. I would have liked to see more on the construction, costs and benefits. etc. Generally you will leave the show, informed and more aware of what’s available, also probably carrying a bag full of household goods believing these will save you time, but most often will end up in the press, that’s what happens at these shows, you can always keep them for a present for Christmas. Thanks, Richard -

DREAM ON!
Home Interiors Ireland Wins Double Gold At Ideal Home Show 2006
Home Interiors Irelanddesign principal Jenny Deasy claimed two gold awards at this year’s Ideal Home Show at the RDS. Deasy’s design for a teenage boy’s bedroom swept the board, winning the Judges’ Award and the People’s Choice Award. Her design, entitled “In Your Wildest Dreams” proved a firm favourite with both judges and the general public for its bold use of colour, artwork, fabric, furniture and its innovative and unique finish. All of the furniture in the room was custom built to Deasy’s design specifications and it all made the most of that all-important feature – storage.
In planning the design of the room Deasy interviewed several teenage boys who identified their dream bedroom as having “a lot of storage, a good bed, room for friends to stay over, desk space and a big TV”. Working within these parameters Deasy set out to design a room that was not only functional but, bearing in mind the amount of time most teenagers spend in their rooms, she attempted to design a room that was a creative, exciting space in which a teenager would thrive. So in addition to clever use of space saving furniture like the fold out, hand made bed which not only folds up beneath the main bed, but can also double as cushions on which visiting friends can sit, and the cleverly built and disguised walk-in wardrobe, the room also featured vintage 60’s fabric, a hand-painted mural featuring Jimi Hendrix for the walls instead of wall paper or block colour, and a huge, wall mounted projector screen for movies or computer games. The desk was made to a simple design but contained all the essentials needed for a good study area. Says Deasy of her design, “In order to tear away from the serious, functional side of the room, I used a funky abstract mural and a vibrant, coloured, unconventional pattern on the walls along with iconic images in music to inspire the rock'n'roll kids of today.”
Deasy’s attention to detail and impressive artistic ability were clear in every aspect of this room and it’s design, from the fabulous fabrics to the often cunningly designed furniture. But the wow factor really came from the mural, designed by Deasy herself, who specialises in murals and mosaic work.
“The beauty of a custom made room and furnishings,” says Deasy, “is that you can really make your own mark and let your own personality determine every feature”. Every aspect of her bedroom design could be adapted to suit every conceivable style taste or be made into a girl’s bedroom. This, along with its clever use of space and storage, means that it could be adapted for any size bedroom.
Relatively new to the Irish interior design world, Deasy clearly intends to make her own unique mark. And if her design at the Home Show was anything to go by she should prove to be an extremely talented breath of fresh air.
