Does any one have any recommendations for a good quality, fabric sofa bed (not too dear, pref. under €1200). The ones we've seen seem to either be cheap and nasty or v. v. dear.

I recommend that you go for a quality sofa bed, things to watch out for are the mechanism for opening the bed, also the depth of the mattress. You can get some sofa beds for under 700 but generally between 600 and 1200. Thanks, Richard www.furniture.ie

Yes... well I know that. But I wonder whether anyone has any suggestions of retailers or have seen good sofa beds anywhere. I have a car and can go looking all over Dublin. Have just tried the city centre/ Capel st so far. The selection seems quite limited. Another strange thing I noticed - you'll often see an ad in a paper for a furniture or electrical appliance outlet - but there is no address or phone number!!! Why is this?

Capel Street is a good area to go looking, also you can buy online here http://www.mattress.ie/Sofabed-p-1-c-382.html This is a seperate company that I founded, they are good quality sofa beds. As regards not displaying your contact details, this seems illogical, It sould be clearly displayed. Thanks, Richard

There are two nice sofa beds on instore.ie, the second one in particular, i have seen in reality and it becomes the closest thing to a double bed i've seen in sofa beds - they're usually so small. At e599 its well worth a look, they delivery anywhere in Ireland. http://www.instore.ie/shop/category.asp?catid=90

Hi Haijin, Please declare weather or not you are from Instore. It should be made clear in your posts. It is better to have the forum open. I do not mind you posting relevant answers to questions but do let the members know if you have an interest in the link you are recommending. Thanks, Richard www.furniture.ie

hay all... how do you think a memory foam topper would go on a sofa bed? would this be the difference between the cheap ones (i.e uncomfortable or is it the mechinism that makes them cheaper?)

im just wondering if it could be a cheap alternative for you... do anyone know if the foam could withstand the constant bending and miss shaping..? as the one i have at home developed dents relatively quickly after purchase...

You could use a topper on a sofa bed but you would most likely have to store it some where else as it will not fit when rolled up. Best to get a 50 to 70mm topper to get maxium benefit.

cool cool. thanks for that Richard, sound advice as per....

Are the thinner toppers any good? they are much cheaper but is that becasue the are pointless? understandably there will be a threshold between awesome and a ok...

In your humble opinion... What would you say is the minium depth for a topper?

The one i bought years ago is a 4 inch bad boi! its on the spare bed which my gran uses on weekends, she says that she loves sleeping on it as it helps with her back  ache... and athritus... but then grans would say that...

The wife is decorating our other spare bedroom and we have been thinking about either a new matress (poss pocket sprung) or a latex topper and keep the original bed n matress, are you aware how the latex topper would compare with memory foam? pls bear in mind the with the way money is at the moment i.e limited...  is it worth going for natural latex or is the difference simply in the source? is it smell related at all? as the price of natural is considerably more... n i'd hate to be smelling latex all night!
