Hi, Can anyone advise of a decent surrond sound shop in Dublin? I am looking for seperates not the all in one packages i.e. seperate speakers and amplifier. Also any advise on laying flat speaker cable under semi-solid wood floors. I am hoping to bring the cable out in the corners of the room. Would it difficult to run the cable in the gap between the walls and the floor and then bring the cable out in the corners putting the skirting boards over the gaps and hiding the cables. Any advice would be great. Thanks, Mary -

I have found Maplin to be good for sound systems if you are building one yourself. I would also advise caution if you plan on running cables in the gap between the wooden floor and the wall. This gap is left for movement in the timber floor. Are you walls solid? Is it a two storey? Is wireless an option? Thanks, Richard -

Hi Richard Yep the walls are solid structural walls and the flooring is semi-solid. Its a duplex so yep 2 stories. I did look into the wireless option but was advised that for the convience you suffer the quality in terms of the sound. I have spoken 2 my carpenter and he advised that the normal way to go about these things is in the space between the wall and the flooring. I only plan on having to lay cable on one side of the room so the expansion gap on the other side should be ok. This way I get to hide the cables when the skirting board is in postion. Maplin are helpful for the cables but doesnt really stock the equipment I think I am Belfast bound to find the type of shops I am looking for .Dublin just doesn't seem to have the selection its peats or maplin which don't really stock the mid range set up I am looking for. Thanks, Mary -

If your floor is solid wood, then it would be easiler, solid wood expands considerably more in the width than in the length. It is probably the same with the semi solid but. If you do this ensure that the room has dried out fully, leave the floor to adjust for period, and then place the cable. Another option is to put a groove in the back of the skirting for the cable. The floor should be fine so long as there is some room for movement. If area is small then this will help, consider if 1 board exapnds only a 1/2 mm then twenty boards expanding equals 10mm. Thanks, Richard
