Hi I have just bought a new apartment and want to carpet the bedrooms. the problem is the rooms are very strange size. very long and thin. and have been quoted very lare prices. anybody know the best place to go for carpets in south Dublin ( price and service) also somebody told me i could get a join done in one of the bedrooms and it would cut the cost considerably. would this not be very obvious any thoughts would be appreciated Thanks Sarah

Hi Sarah, I found carpet right to be quite good, a good selection at the price I was looking for. It is best to choose a carpet that is neutral for the bedrooms and My advice on this is to get all the sizes for the rooms and go and get a quote from some suppliers. The rolls of carpet come in 4 and 5 metre length and they can optiomise the cut for the whole house. With carpet right you have to get your own carpet fitter, and the person we got was very good (mayo Area) he also said that he can join carpet to cut down on costs, you would need to talk to the fitter first as he needs to be able to join two factory cut edges, otherwise the joint would be too obvious. I also was quite impressed with felt back carpet, we did not have to pay extra for underlay in the rooms. We did use an underlay in the stairs as this cuts down on noise and helps with wear. I liked the idea of carpets upstairs as they are comfortable and do reduce noise in a timber frame house. Generally the price was 7 to 13 euro per SQM for the bedrooms. There is a big difference in the total price if you compare the price SQM with square yard. so carpet for 10 per square metre is not the same as 10 per square yard. Thanks, RIchard

I realise that, also cheaper too but I like the idea of carpets in the bedroom, allot cosier than wooden floors.

Carpets are much better on sound especially if this is an upstairs appartment. A good carpet fitter would be highly recommended.. ask the store for the carpet fitters number.

went to carpet right who had a 60% sale then went to clearys who had a 10% sale. the carpets were the same quality and clearys still ended up cheaper. but still very expensive for the two rooms.

The advertised discounts are a problem and it is something that will become more of a problem in Ireland and there are more and more multiples opening here. Price establishing is a prictice that doesn't happen here much but I beging to see the need for it more so now, It is where the retailer has to ensure that the product they sell has being on offer for a time at the origional price before they can say that it is discounted. So if you discount something by 20% you will have to be able to prove it was sold at some stage for the origional price. Thanks, Richard

Supervalu Carpets on the Kylemore Road is FANTASTIC. Having looked everywhere, the prices are great and the service 1st class - they have this one guy with them years and years who measures most places, very efficient. They also have brilliant rugs. Great prices. I think the name 'Supervalu' makes them sound a tad tacky. And they're not a bit! Ally. PS Try to go during the week when it's nice and relaxing. You can bring home samples

The practice of offering hugh percentage discounts is only taking off in Ireland, the larger UK multiples have developed this practice and you will begin to see a larger number of Irish companies having to do the same. You can also see some more on this on this discussion. http://www.furniture.ie/forum/about423.html Soon customers will become blind to sales or promotions. Generally consumers will have to inform themselves about the products before making a purchase, thankfully the Internet makes this easier. Thanks, Richard www.furniture.ie
