    Hey!

I recently came up with an idea for a new piece of furniture. Its a twist on an existing piece of furniture which makes it twice as functional, and there is nothing like it in the market today.

I feel that many women would buy this piece, or men would buy them as gifts for their wives or daughters.

My question is: where do I start on getting it into shops?

Would interested furniture makers produce and sell it and give me a percent of the sale? Or is that only if I patent it?

I know its difficult to patent things and I doubt its possible to patent a piece of furniture really. Others can easily do other designs of the same piece. So patenting is probably pointless.

Has anyone got a similar experience?

    Thanks a mil,

    Gibbins

    Hi

If you can produce a good few first of, and at the right money you could try your local retail furniture shops. you may find one or two will work on a sale or return basis, which will let you see if there is a market for your design, the problem is sometimes the big shops like b+q etc will buy your product and send it around the world to see what company can make it the cheapest.  If you try one of the retailer magazines like www.cabinet-maker.co.uk they may be able to point you in the right direction. or you can google retailer magazines.

sorry i can`t be of more help, good luck.
