What are the main foam beds and mattresses available in Ireland. Are they better than the sprung mattresses. Where can they be bought?

You can see the Memory Foam available from Sealy www.sealy.ie

Also other suppliers that I know of are:

    http://www.kayfoamwoolfson.com/
    http://www.tempurpedic.com

If anyone has used these beds please let us know what you thought of them.

I love these beds myself, I have a friend who just got one. I have laid on it and I love it but I still love my old bed. I did however get a smaller memory foam bed for my dog. She loves it too. She has arthritis and it makes laying on her bed much more comfortable for her.

I would really recommend these beds. We got one a year ago from Hannon's Furniture in Limerick (061 413076) - the beds are made in Ballylanders, Co Limerick but don't sell direct to the public.

We were actually able to get a Superking Size bed made 3 inches longer (6' x 6'9") as my husband is very tall - it cost us €1500 including mattress but it was money well spent.I think the normal Superking Size bed (6' x 6'6") would have cost about €1100/€1200 and I'm sure Kingsize would be good value.

It is extremely comfortable as the foam moulds around your body, so it gives you support as well as being lovely and soft.

Having Slept on one recently I do recommend the Memory foam mattress. I didn't like to pillow even though it felt lovely. Maybe you would have to get used to it. The contour certainly is different.

Having seen memory foam at a number of shows I do recommed that you seek advice or try them out before you buy. A good memory foam mattress are generally over €1,000 euro.

    Thanks,

I bought a Viscofoam mattress recently in West Cork and I can't recommend it enough!

There are however a lot of different grades of memory foam now so be aware that there can be differences between different brands(which is true of any type of mattress I suppose ).

Just be sure to give yourself time to get used to it as it does feel very different to an interior sprung mattress. The shop I bought it in had another mattress which was pocket sprung with memory foam and was very nice too.

I would also advise people to check that the foam mattress is of a good quality, Also that it complies with fire requlations. Also beacuse a mattress is foam it doesn't necessarly mean it is memory foam. I have seen some mattresses on Ebay, that are supposed to be memory foam but are just standard foam.

See this article on Mattress Types for some more infomation.

    Thanks,
    Richard

Memory foam Mattresses for a Bad Back!!

I suffer from a bad back, and heard about the moulding benefits of memory foam mattresses. I took professional medical advise before I made my purchase, and my doctor recommended that I purchase a medium to firm mattress, that would support my back and provide good support.

I came accross an online retailer of memory foam products, sleepdetox. I was a bit hesitant about purchasing a mattress online as i generally like to have a feel of a product before i make my decision. I spoke to a member of the memory foam team at sleepdetox, they offered me a 7 day money back guarantee if the mattress did not suit my needs.

I brought the mattress, its fab, never made a better purchase!! great company and great customer care.

As I understand it when buying goods online or via mail order, companies are required to offer a 7-day cooling off period by law but some try to recoup costs by charging for the shipping of goods or similar. I had a look at this site and they mention a 15% "Administration Charge". I couldn't find anything about whether the foam meets fire regulations either, and their description of the origin of memory foam is misleading at best.

As for the firmness of mattresses, that is always a question of personal taste. While with traditional mattresses, firmness is usually better for back trouble, that is not always the case with memory foam mattresses. Has anyone actually bought from this company, what are they like to deal with?

I bought a Slumberland memory foam mattress from www.clerysbedstore.ie. They also do mattresses from other companies. It was €900 which I think is very good value (considering I use it seven hours every night!) and I'd never go back to a regular mattress now. I found Clery's great to deal with and you can also try them out in the shop (but I was too lazy to leave the computer! ).

I too bought a memory foam mattress for my camper van... i must admit, ive finshed up sleeping in the van a couple of times... not only becasue ive been booted outa the house for being drunk... lol. but becasue its so cosy and warm in there... i dont even have to have the heating on in the van as the memory foam matress hold in some of the body heat, making it so so cosy and warm...
