Has anyone else dealt with Jim Langan and found them totally frustrating.  We purchased a table a chairs in Aug and were told they'd be in within 6 - 8 weeks.  As of today we're being told they'd hope they'll have them in next week, we're looking at waiting 12 weeks for a standard table & chairs. PLUS when paying they asked for the full amount but the terms and conditions state you only have to pay 25%.  A nice earner for Jim Langan - taking your money for 3 months and earning interest on it.

I'd advise against buying through Jim Langan as they'll lie about delivery dates to get a sale.

I wish I had read this post before I ordered my furniture. We ordered a Table, chairs and cabinet from them in early January, and were told 6-8 weeks. Let you, they asked for full payment, but did Guarantee 8 weeks delivery. That is now 13 weeks ago, and I have just finished a call with their "customer service" who have just informed me that it will be another 2 weeks. Says a lot for their guarantee!!! Every time I called Jim Langans, I was told they were waiting for delivery of, for example, the chairs, the next time I am told the chairs are in but the table is due in next week, then I phone again, and the table is in, but they are waiting on the chairs (again!!!). They are only interested in making the sale, my advice is to keep clear of them, or only pay the deposit as stated on the full terms and conditions (which are not all up on their website, but on the back of the invoice you are given after paying!)

The 100% up front seems to be happening with a lot of retailers.  I ordered a couch on December the 27th, from Diamond Living, and paid in full, as is their policy.  I was given an eight to ten week delivery, so it would be delivered at the end of February,

At the beginning of February I rang to check on delivery, weather in China had caused problems and the delivery was now scheduled for the first week in April.  I gave them the benefit of the doubt,  and waited, and last week got a call that the supplier had a problem with the fabric of the couch, nothing had shipped, if I wanted my couch it would be a different fabric, and only arrive at the end of June, six months after order.  Surely if the problem was only delivery there should be no issue with running out of fabric?  You would think...

The manager I got the refund from said there were 80 people waiting for the same couch.  This is almost €100,000 sitting in Diamond's bank account for over three months.  No wonder they want all the money up front.

Cost of manufacture, 40 foot container back from China, cost of a QC person in China shared between all the factories, this adds up to no more than 20-30% of the cost you pay.  The rest is the shop lease, wages, marketing, and a large chunk of profit.  Nice to have it all up front rather than having to wait for it like most businesses.

14 weeks and counting! We were guaranteed delivery within 4 weeks. They are without a doubt the worst suppliers in Ireland. What really upsets me is  that they are so aggressive on the phone. They even tried to charge me for a cancelled delivery that was their fault.

I can't understand how companies are allowed to get away with this in today's economic situation. Incredible.

DO NOT BUY FROM JIM LANGAN - THEY ARE OPENLY RIPPING YOU OFF

I had to first display that statement as I'm just back from Jim Lagan and they are openly ripping you off and are not even ashamed of it nor do they see anything wrong in what they're doing. Let me explain.

We bought a dining table about a year ago for €690 or €790 last year which was expensive enough but this is not the issue. The table was a 2 meter long table.

A few month later, we were in the area and decided to have a wonder around in JL as well. We saw a console table which was the same color and wood quality as our dining table, so we thought great until we saw the price! The price displayed was RRP €699. We thought it was a mistake as our dining table was €690/€790 and was the equivalent of 4 or 5 of these console tables put together. We spoke to a sales man who told us that there was no mistake as it was the labour that was expensive and the best he could do was to give us 10% off.  We joked back with him and say unless it was more like 50% off, we wouldn't bother. He told us that was the best he could do, and so we walk away.

Wait, it gets worth!!! We thought it was ludicrous money to ask for a console table considering the price of the dining room. Today, 27/12/2008, I was once again near by so I thought, since the sales were on, I'd suprise my wife with that console table if they still had it. They still had the table alright the table was reduced to €549. You'd think, well it's been reduced what's the problem?

Well here is the problem!!! They had the audacity to change RRP from €699 of €946 making look like they were giving a 42% reduction on this console table when in fact it was 21.4% Reduction.

I was going to let it go, but It really got to me that they are taking people for absolute idiots, so I decided to ask to speak to a manager. I explained to him the above and told him it was unacceptable to do such a thing i.e. Bring the RRP from €699 to €946. His reply to me was that I understand where they were coming from and that they had to make it as attractive as possible to the customer, but immediately replied, that they were not making it attractive but simply taking customers for absolute idiots! His reply again to this was they were not lying as they had not displayed "WAS €699 - NOW €549" so they were entitle to display a different RRP, but I explain to him that during sales displaying a RRP nearly €250 higher than the one displayed 4 months previous when no sales were on had only one thing in mind which was to make people believe they were saving 42% rather 21.4% but again he would not budge on it, so here I am letting you know.

Don't get me wrong, I understand that there was a 21.4% reduction and I told the manager I would have had a lot more respect seeing the original RRP of €699 and the reduction they had and therefore would have accepted that it was 21.4% cheaper and was still far too expensive for a console table considering the price of their dining table, but increasing your RRP during the sales to make it look like you're giving a larger reduction is just unacceptable!!

Anyway, I just thought I'd let you know, so don't be fooled by their reductions!!

    Regards,

    T.
