Ceadogán Rugs and TRIPOD III Join Forces as 'Yarn and Sail Unite'
Ceadogán Rugs and TRIPODIII are delighted to announce that they have teamed up to celebrate the Galway stop-over of the Volvo Ocean Race this May. This collaboration, which will bring the best of Irish craftsmanship by Denis Kenny and cutting edge design by Ger Lambert together, will produce eleven custom designed, handmade rugs inspired by all things nautical. The source of inspiration was endless with a particular focus on the themes of weather patterns, sail details, vessels, tidal charting and sailing instrumentation.
The collection of bespoke rugs, entitled 'Yarn and Sail Unite', will be exhibited at the Radisson SAS, Lough Atalia Road, Galway from Thursday, 8th May until Monday, 8th June 2009, with a special preview evening on Wednesday, 20th May 2009.
Ceadogán Rugs' Denis Kenny said, 'Being a member of the Crafts Council of Ireland has enabled us to work with leading textile designers over the years and this year we are very excited to team up with TRIPOD III on 'Yarn and Sail Unite'. Galway's strong maritime tradition combined with Ger Lambert's contemporary designs and exquisite use of colour will give us something innovative and rewarding to offer visitors to Galway in May. Exquisite use of colour, superb quality and design are the hallmarks of Ceadogán Rugs and the eleven rugs in this collection portray each of these elements perfectly.'
Commenting on TRIPODIII's inspired partnership with Ceadogan, Ger Lambert said, "The prospect of a prestigious international yacht race sailing into Galway bay inspired TRIPODIII to organise an exhibition showcasing Irish craft and design on a world stage. Having worked with Ceadogán Rugs successfully on various corporate projects, I immediately thought of Denis – together we have created an amazing collection of rugs to commemorate the Volvo Ocean Race coming to town. I believe the exhibition will enthuse and engage, not only those of the sailing fraternity, but the general public as well. The rugs are 'functional' art pieces suitable for one's residence or corporation and will stylishly commemorate this historic sporting event".
