IKEA Dublin Opening Soon

Written by Administrator July 23, 2009

The first IKEA store in the Republic of Ireland is due to open on 27th July. Opening at 11am on Monday, the eagerly awaited Dublin IKEA will offer 9,500 products from the retailer's popular ranges.

Speaking to The Irish Times, the store's manager Garry Deakin said customers can expect prices to be roughly the same as in IKEA Belfast. He further predicted that strengthening sterling will result in lower prices in the Republic by Christmas.

At 30,500 square metres the Ballymun store will become the largest store in the Republic. In addition to retail space, the store will include a substantial restaurant and Café, as well as almost two thousand parking spaces to accomodate the large projected influx of customers.

The store's opening is predicted to cause considerable disruption to traffic on Dublin's M50. Upgrades to the motorway were originally slated for completion prior to the opening of IKEA as a condition of the store's planning permission. But Fingal County Council decided that the road network was sufficient to handle the increase in traffic despite works being incomplete, reports The Irish Independent.

The popularity of IKEA Belfast with Irish customers suggests that the arrival of IKEA in the Republic will be welcomed by many shoppers keen to avail of its well known flat-pack furniture.
