Belfast Store Gets Green Light

Swedish furniture retailer IKEA has been granted planning permission for a store in east Belfast, which will create 500 jobs. IKEA increased the floor area of the Belfast store by 3,200m² and this delayed the planning application. The new Belfast store will have a floor area of 29,000m².

The application for their Dublin store of a similar size is currently in the planning process and may be subject to a number of objections. The biggest obstacle to the proposed Dublin development may be the resulting traffic congestion on the M50. We believe the Belfast store will prove a significant lure for Irish furniture shoppers to take the trip to Belfast.

Furniture.ie has learned that the retail giant IKEA was granted planning permission to open in Dublin. A number of conditions are attached to the development but these should not be a problem for a company with a turnover greater than EUR15 billion.
