Belfast Store Gets Green Light
December 21, 2006
Swedish furniture retailer IKEA has been granted planning permission for a store in east Belfast, which will create 500 jobs. IKEA increased the floor area of the Belfast store by 3,200m2 and this delayed the planning application. The new Belfast store will have a floor area of 29,000m2.
The application for their Dublin store of a similar size is currently in the planning process and may be subject to a number of objections. The biggest obstacle to the proposed Dublin development may be the resulting traffic congestion on the M50. We believe the Belfast store will prove a significant lure for Irish furniture shoppers to take the trip to Belfast.
