Belfast IKEA Store Opens - IKEA Has Arrived In Ireland
IKEA has finally arrived in Ireland, with their first store opening in Belfast. The Belfast store opened its doors on the 13th December.
The arrival of the popular Swedish furniture store has been long awaited by shoppers in the North of Ireland and the Republic. While the traffic disruption caused by the opening was considerably less than expected, the store was visited by over 15,000 shoppers on its first day of trading.
IKEA's opening of their Belfast store means the many Irish shoppers who previously travelled to Scotland expressly to shop in IKEA will have easier access to the store's products. Bus Éireann have announced a new direct coach service to IKEA Belfast from Dublin to facilitate shoppers from the Republic.
A Dublin IKEA store has been approved, but remains at an early stage of planning. Until its opening, eager shoppers from the Republic are likely to make up a considerable proportion of customers at the Belfast store.
